Will you demand equity for South Fulton or just stay on the plantation?

This Week's Definitions

 Hypocrisy is defined as

·         an expression of agreement that is not supported by real conviction

·         insincerity by virtue of pretending to have qualities or beliefs that you do not really have

SPLOST stands for special-purpose local-option sales tax

It’s ironic that when there are suggestions by Fulton County School System staff of cutting back on Sandy Springs school projects promised in the SPLOST II vote because of a budget shortfall, Gail Dean the school board president representing Sandy Springs goes ballistic.

But it’s OK to let South County Projects like Westlake HS go unfunded that were promised in the very same SPLOST II vote at the polls.

They continue to fool around on not funding the rebuild of Westlake HS – built in the 1960’s, but they’ll make a way to fix up the elementary schools in Sandy Springs and North Fulton.

This is why we need to demand they approve the lease/purchase plan to fund our schools - now that they’ve spent all the SPLOST money building schools in North Fulton, we need creative financing of this tried and true technique.  We also need to make sure they don’t switch construction priorities and slip in yet another North County school in ahead of us.

They wouldn’t have as much of a budget shortfall if they sold the old Milton HS for the $25 million they planned to sell it for.  Now instead after they built a new Milton High School; they keeping the old Milton HS for enrichment programs for North Fulton Students.

They have such zeal to build schools in Sandy Springs; they’ve threatened to seize the land from Weber, the first Jewish High School in North Fulton that was going to break ground in weeks by using the power of eminent domain.

AJC Article: First Jewish high school to break ground soon

Read Housing of Students  to see the facts and learn about the lease / purchase proposal.

The majority of Board Material requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view.

To those of you who are new to this struggle I know it sounds incredible, but it’s true. Be sure to attend board meetings to make sure we don’t get a knife in the back again.

Don’t complain about school overcrowding if you don’t do anything productive about it!!
