The "Sandtown Indian Tribe" refers to Creek Indians who established a frontier settlement called Sandtown (or Oktahasi) on the Chattahoochee River in what is now Fulton County, GeorgiaThe name "Sandtown" was derived from a Creek town in Alabama and reflected the area's sandy, rocky terrain. This community, along with a related settlement called Buzzard's Roost, served as a significant trading and travel center before being ceded to Georgia in 1821 and later absorbed into Fulton County.
